Balsells Fellowship

The Fellowship was established in the 1996-1997 academic year, and is funded in part by The Henry Samueli School of Engineering, the government of Catalonia, Spain and Peter Balsells, President and Owner of Bal Seal Engineering Company, Inc., in Foothill Ranch, California. Applicants for the Balsells Fellowship must be recent graduates or researchers with excellent academic records and the potential to make outstanding contributions to the engineering profession. The fellowship is only available to citizens of Spain who have graduated from a university in Catalonia and who fluently speak and write English, Catalan and Spanish.

Engineering Pathway to the PhD Fellowship

The Engineering Pathway to the PhD Fellowship places an emphasis on supporting M.S. students who can add diversity to our graduate programs.  By eliminating the need for employment during the fellowship year, this funding allows more time to focus on research and academics.

Henry Samueli Endowed Fellowship

One of the premier awards offered to incoming or continuing graduate students in the school. This award is funded by Henry Samueli, co-founder of Broadcom Corporation, after whom the school is named. The award is open to both terminal M.S. and Ph.D. students. It is a competitive award, rather than need-based, and it is open to all graduate majors within the school. The number of awards and amounts varies each year. Application process varies with each graduate program so check with your Graduate Coordinator for more details.

John and Joanna Duffy Graduate Student Fellowship

The John and Joanna Duffy Graduate Student Fellowship places an emphasis on supporting M.S. students who can enhance the diversity, equity, and inclusion of our graduate programs. By eliminating the need for employment during the fellowship year, this funding allows more time to focus on academics and research.

William and Ida Melucci Space Exploration & Technology Fellowship

The Melucci Endowed Fellowship was created to support and enhance the education of UC Irvine graduate students working in space exploration and space technology. Past recipients have worked on the Rover guidance system for landing on Mars, electric propulsion for space craft, as well as people looking at combustion and structures.

Hostetter Fellowship (EECS)

This fellowship is to be awarded to a graduate student in the Electrical Engineering & Computer Science department at UC Irvine. This award will supplement other fellowship support or financial aid that the student is receiving to help pay for tuition and fees.  No separate application is necessary to be considered for this fellowship.

Micro Fellowship (EECS)

A one year fellowship for Electrical and Computer Engineering students, it is made available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents only. It includes fees and a stipend, and for non-residents, it also includes tuition. M.S. and Ph.D. students are eligible.

The Henry T. Nicholas, III Research Fellowship (Embedded Systems)

Established by the Nicholas Foundation, this fellowship supports two UC Irvine graduate students performing interdisciplinary research in the field of embedded systems. Fellowship recipients will be provided with a stipend in addition to payment of tuition and fees for one academic year. Fellows will be selected by an independent committee comprised of Center for Embedded Computer Systems (CECS) faculty and representatives from the Nicholas Endowment.

Holmes Endowed Fellowship (EECS & MAE)

The Fellowship is available to Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering students who have a demonstrated background and interest in flight systems navigation. The award is made available to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and international students. Students who are M.S. and Ph.D. candidates may be considered for the award. The award includes a monthly stipend, fees and/or non-resident tuition. No separate application is necessary to be considered for this fellowship.

Kleist Endowed Fellowship (EECS & MAE)

This fellowship is for Electrical and Computer Engineering or Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering students and is made available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents only. This fellowship is funded by Robert Kleist, CEO and President of Printronix, Inc., located in Irvine, California. Both M.S. and Ph.D. students may be considered for the award. The award includes a monthly stipend, fees and non-resident tuition.  No separate application is necessary to be considered for this fellowship.

Parker Hannifin Fellowship (MAE)

The fellowship is for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering students and is made available to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and international students. Students who are M.S. and Ph.D. candidates may be considered for the award. The award includes a monthly stipend, fees and non-resident tuition.  No separate application is necessary to be considered for this fellowship.

Pia Gratton Endowed Graduate Student Award

The Pia Gratton Endowed Graduate Student Award is intended for engineering graduate students who demonstrate excellent academic accomplishments, impressive contributions to the university, and dedication to the mentorship of undergraduate students.
